April 2012 Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Awards winners announced!

The following four young entrepreneurs won £1,000 each for their new business through our monthly Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Awards competition in April 2012.

Darren Lester (theCADcube)

theCADcube is a developing 3D catalogue technology service which will combine an online efficiency tool for professionals within the architecture and design industry and an innovative advertising concept for product manufacturers. The aim of theCADcube is to increase collaboration between designers, manufacturers and clients by developing the concept of 3D Catalog Technology (3CT), which is widespread throughout engineering practices, into the design sector. The products of leading and niche manufacturers are converted into photo-realistic 3D computer models using the latest CAD software. Each product is then made available within their online catalogue, where architects, designers and their clients can browse at will, using a range of different search criteria.

Sarah Watson (Freggies)

Freggies (Friends who love Fruit and Veggies) is a new sensory class aimed at the under 5's and their parents/carers. It is a fun and educational way to allow young children to explore the tastes and textures of a variety of fruit and veg in a relaxed environment as well as providing a time for both parents and children to learn about and enjoy healthy nutrition together.

Darren and Sarah received the highest number of judges scores and online votes for their elevator pitch videos this month which means they are automatically added to our 'Hot 40' shortlist for the £10,000 Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in November.

Gerry Newton (Bicycle Basecamp)

Bicycle Basecamp is a unique online bicycle marketplace and inspiration site for cyclists. The business offers daily and longer-term curated sales of cycling related items from cool independent brands and provides users with a dedicated area from which to list and buy bicycles for free.

Jonathan May (Sponsorcraft)

Sponsorcraft is a crowdfunding website created specifically for students. Students post and promote their projects and offer rewards in return for many small donations from individuals such as family, friends and alumni to achieve their funding target.

Commiserations to Ibrahim Babiker (TeenTJ), Laura Bartlett (Urban Coco), Millie Forrest (The Soup Library), Katie Johnston (Play-o-logy), Henry Morris (upReach) and Hayley Revell (Northern League Football Premiership Passion) who were shortlisted but did not win this time around. Good luck next time!
