The Programme

Intilaaqah Abu Dhabi is based on the Shell LiveWIRE programme, an international initiative developed by Shell and launched in over 24 countries throughout the world.  LiveWIRE, which has been running in the UK since 1982, is one of Shell’s many social investment programmes.  It is designed to provide training and support, free of charge, for those wishing to start a small business – an important segment of the economy.

Intilaaqah Abu Dhabi is available free of charge to young UAE nationals (aged 18-32) and aims to:

  • Provide training to enable candidates to develop a comprehensive business plan (e.g. market research, business planning, financial forecasting, resource requirements etc.)
  • Offer support and advice to candidates who progress to set up their own business.
  • Raise awareness of self-employment and provide an opportunity to discuss and think through the implications of starting a business.
  • Provide transferable skills to benefit the local job market.

Please note: The programme does not offer funding for business start-ups.

Target audience

LiveWIRE is an initiative aimed at young people. With this in mind, Intilaaqah Abu Dhabi is only available to UAE nationals aged between 18-32. As the course is currently only available in English, successful candidates must be competent in both written and spoken English. (Please note, the programme does not provide English language skills support.)  Candidates may be currently working, in full or part-time education, or currently unemployed but they will be united by their drive, enthusiasm and willingness to work hard to successfully become their own boss.  Generally, they are college graduates or young professionals with little or no knowledge of the mechanics of business start up but keen to learn about setting up a business.

Requirements

Candidates must be aware that realising their dream to own and run their own business will not be easy. It will require hard work, energy, drive and enthusiasm. Not everyone will have what it takes. Candidates will need to undertake intensive market research and write detailed financial forecasts when developing their business plans. Throughout all stages of the programme, support, advice and encouragement will be given but it is the candidates themselves who will determine whether or not they succeed.  Candidates are required to attend the course regularly and punctually in order to successfully complete the programme.
