Shell LiveWIRE programmes around the world aim to offer help and support to enable young people to start and run viable businesses. Each programme enquirer has access to information, support and business tools to help them develop their business idea. Once they choose to start a business, they also have access to training and skills to produce their own business plan, and linkages to further support once the business is set up.

LiveWIRE appreciates that young people have many choices and that entrepreneurship along with the development of new small businesses is vital to any country's economy. The small business sector generates the majority of new jobs today, and small businesses contribute a high percentage of all available jobs globally. LiveWIRE programmes support young people to make a positive contribution to a thriving small business sector, which in turn boosts the economy and creates employment opportunities for others.

LiveWIRE programmes in each country are based upon and follow the core themes of the Shell LiveWIRE International programme. In addition, each programme benefits from detailed localisation, to ensure a complementary fit within the host country context and situation.  In some countries the programme may operate under a local name; all programmes are managed and delivered locally.
