HD Printing - High Resolution Vs Low Resolution

The easiest way to describe this, is by comparing Blu-Ray DVDs with VHS Tapes. When you view one then the other, there really is no comparison. We print using the highest resolution settings and to get the best results we need your photos/images to be of the highest quality also.

To get a good quality image to print perfectly, it must be at least 300dpi at the size it is to be printed. Any less could result in pixelation as the image below shows

The question we get asked most, relates to bleed. The 'bleed', is the area outside of your design that we use to trim artwork to the correct size. We use this area to ensure that no critical information, or images are cut off when we trim the pages (with a guillotine the size of a small room). Make sure that any images that are to extend to the edge of your design also extend 3mm of the page edge (on all sides).

If you are creating your own artwork, please ask them to use our our templates for your design. This means, we can quickly confirm the readiness for print, saving time & money.

In the image above the DARK grey area is the finished size of the flyer & the LIGHT grey area is the bleed on each side. To be extra careful, we would also ask designers to include a 3mm safe zone on the inside of the DARK grey area as a matter of best practice.

 Morning All,

Well what a month May 2010 was! We got some absolutely awesome new clients and furthermore some great projects to print and of course design. This post is to showcase some of the work we are finished and in the middle of completing for Draynes Farms. If you haven't heard of the company, thats a crying shame, because they are the only dairy farm in Northern Ireland who still milk their own cows, pasterise & bottle the finished product. This allows them to monitor the quality at every level!

For Draynes, we developed the slogan "Where Happy Cows Live" as happy cows make nicer milk. This will be rolled out throughout all marketing literature and their forthcoming website which we are also developing.

As an effort to do something different, I am going to post some of the designs that inspire my own work in the hope that they generate ideas for other users of the Livewire Network.

Todays lesson - design does not need to be cluttered and logos do not need to be half the size of the design to be noticed
