Creative Constructions makes custom-built constructions for special events and architectural demonstrations, using lightweight tubes interconnected by a patented coupling system to create all kinds of structures. One of their most unusual constructions to date was the creation of a scale model of the Eiffel Tower for a trade fair in Paris .

Commercial Director Michael Blonk and Designer Rinze Wels have set up their business very quickly. At the end of 2006 it was still just a bright idea but recently they have worked on big projects such as an eye-catching construction for a Foo Fighters concert. There are some weeks when they work almost 100 hours. “We work flat out,” says Michael Blonk, “No point in doing it slowly.”

This Lelystad based business is now becoming increasingly popular with event organisers. The touring Superbike World Championship ordered a media marquee and for a Gerard Joling concert, Creative Constructions will be making a giant pair of sunglasses measuring 4 by 10 metres, but weighing 6 tonnes instead of the 15 tonnes that a conventional construction would weigh. Michael Blonk explains, “We come into view when the others can’t manage it. We do it faster, or lighter, or both. It’s really starting to take off.”

The success of Creative Constructions has not gone unnoticed. The business reached the national final of LiveWIRE as one of the top young businesses in the Netherlands . It has also just won a top ten place in the SME Innovation Top 100, making the duo, “fantastically proud”. Said Michael Blonk; “First a place in the LiveWIRE finals, and now this. It shows we’ve really got something going on in one and a half years, and that we’re not just small scale operators. It helps us show that we, and our products, mean business.”
