This year's Shell LiveWIRE Indonesia Awards included two new categories to reward businesses that have a positive impact on the environment and that benefit society.

The 'Ecopreneur Award' rewards business performance in sustaining the improvement of environmental quality and sustainability. In addition, the business should successfully bring solutions to environmental issues, such as deforestation and reforestation, waste management, energy saving, biodiversity and land use. The winner of this award is Puriyani Hasanah of Popon's Nursery.

Meanwhile, the 'Sociopreneur Award', recognises a business which has made a significant contribution to improving society. This involves providing business solutions to social issues, such as poverty reduction, improving educational opportunity, health care, women and disabled people empowerment, and human rights protection. This award was won by dan Fajar Ciptandi (Dwaya Manikam).

The ten finalists were selected from more than 350 young people aged 18-32 years old whose businesses have been trading for between 3 to 24 months. Eight of the start ups received 25 million rupiah (US $2,000) each, and the winners of the 'Ecopreneur' and 'Sociopreneur' awards received 35 million rupiah (US $2,900) each. All of the ten winners will also receive business coaching in addition to media coverage opportunities.

Popular business sectors represented by the finalist businesses include: food and beverages; fashion; agriculture; IT; furniture, and art.

Speaking at the awards presentation, President Director and Country Chairman of PT Shell Indonesia, Darwin Silalahi acknowledged the potential of young entrepreneurs in their creative use of domestic resources, combined with their application of advanced IT, to bring about positive economic and social impacts. He also stressed the importance of young entrepreneurs to the national economy, and said that Shell LiveWIRE Indonesia is motivating young people to view starting a business as a desirable and viable career opportunity. Finalist pitching their business to judges

More than 5,000 young entrepreneurs have benefited from Shell LiveWIRE Indonesia enterprise training workshops since 2003, and 3,401 have taken part in the Shell LiveWIRE Business Start-Up Award, since 2006.
