LiveWIRE in Oman is called Intilaaqah, which means 'take off'

The purpose of Intilaaqah is to stimulate and encourage young Omani job seekers to consider the option of starting their own businesses, and to provide assistance to those who wish to take up that option. The programme has been presented to the nation by Shell in the occasion of the Sultanate's 25th National Day in November 1995.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Provide young and unemployed Omanis with the tools to develop their business ideas by offering personal counselling and referral to training in preparation for staring a business
  • Assist the Omani government’s aim of diversifying the economy away from oil and gas
  • Help alleviate the growing unemployment amongst young Omanis
  • Demonstrate Shell’s commitment to the sustainable development of the Sultanate

Several government and private sector organisations have joined the programme as partners, and helped in sponsoring several activities:

  • Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) – provides support for training courses, including free venues
  • United Press and Publishing (UPP) – a media partner with Intilaaqah. The programme is a partner with UPP’s quarterly entrepreneur magazine, Ruwad
  • Oman Development Bank (ODB) – Intilaaqah provides enterprise training to ODB’s small business clients
  • Industrial Innovation Centre (ICC) – Intilaaqah works with IIC to encourage innovative and creative new business ideas

Intilaaqah organises an annual awards event to select the best young entrepreneur in Oman.

During 2012, Intilaaqah will provide online, self-paced, interactive enterprise training which will be open to any young Omani.

Advice and support is offered in a variety of ways to people who wish to pursue further the option of starting their own business, or those who wish to expand and develop their existing business.
