Welcome to Shell LiveWIRE International / New Shell LiveWIRE programme launches in Gabon

Shell Entreprendre Gabon

A brand new Shell LiveWIRE initiative, known as Shell Entreprendre, has launched as a pilot programme in Gabon. The new programme kicked-off its four week awareness campaign on the 7 July with the aim of identifying 100 young people who will participate in Shell Entreprendre's enterprise development training programme starting in September. Business plans developed by the entrepreneurial trainees will be evaluated for awards and start up funding opportunities.

Shell Entreprendre is a fully funded Shell Gabon social performance programme which will enable young Gabonese people to start up and run viable businesses that create employment, and will potentially enable some of them to be integrated into Shell's value chain. Particular emphasis will be given to enterprises looking to start up and grow in the Oil and Gas sector, along with the country's five other growth industries: Agriculture, Ecotourism, Energy, ICT, and Wood Processing.

The month long Shell Entreprendre awareness raising campaign will target young people, aged 18-35, living in Libreville. Promotional activities including poster advertising, presentation events (kicked-off by a member of the Shell Gabon Leadership team), and manned Shell Entreprendre information sites will be available in higher education institutions including: UOB (Université Omar Bongo); INSG (Institut National de Science et de Gestion); ITA (Institut Technique Avancé); IST (Institut Supérieur de Technologie); BBS (BGFI Business School); HEC (Haute Etudes Commercial); IUSO (Institut Universitaire des Sciences de l'Organisation); CFPP Basile Ondimba (Centre de la Formation Professionnelle); and, AFRAM (Académie Franco Américaine de Management).

This hands-on publicity activity will be augmented by the Shell Entreprendre website and Facebook page, where young people can also access application forms and further information. Organisers expect that the awareness raising campaign will engage with around 2,000 young people in Libreville, from which 100 will be selected for the Shell Entreprendre enterprise development training programme.

The Shell Entreprendre training programme, which will equip the young entrepreneur with the skills needed to develop, start up and run a sustainable business, will comprise the following modules: Firstly, commencing on 18 August, the 'Bright Ideas' business ideas generation and enterprise awareness workshop, will enable candidates to analyse the local economy and to identify business opportunities within the country's top five economic sectors, using the programme's Value Chain Briefings, including the Oil & Gas sector. Candidates who pass this stage, will be eligible for the intensive 'Become a Successful Owner Manager' business planning and management training programme which runs from 15 September to 24 November.

Candidates with viable business plans will be given access to business start up finance and technological support. Shell Entreprendre will also provide post-start up support in the form of mentoring, linkages to business incubation services and market access opportunities.

Commenting on the launch of Shell Entreprendre, Jerry-Gaultney Udjo, Lead, Strategy & Planning, Social Performance, Shell Gabon said, "This is a giant step towards the development of young Gabonese entrepreneurs in realisation of Shell Gabon Local Content aspirations and businesses that will potentially become integrated within our supply chain.”
