Latest News / Brazilian LiveWIRE companies attend Leading international tech gathering

Five technology start-ups supported by Shell Iniciativa Jovem will represent Brazil at one of the world's leading technology events in San Francisco from 21-23 September.

The five companies: Web Moment (Erica Castilho); Clube Orgânico (Victor Piranda); Yourkout (Marcos Bortolato); Marca em Casa (Tatiana Rihan); and, Adoravel Criatura (Sonia Rondon) will attend TechCrunch Disrupt 2015, one of the most important gatherings of the best digital entrepreneurs in the world and influential investors.

Clube Orgânico, an organic food marketplace, won their place at the event after being voted one of the best companies in the recent Rio Sustainable Brands 2015 event.

Three of the other companies were selected by the national micro and small business support service Sebrae to participate in the event: Adoravel Criatura, a pet product company; Marca em Casa, a product sampling business; and, Web Moment, a digital agency specialising in digital marketing and web development. Web Moment have also been selected by Apex Brazil as one of 20 companies throughout Brazil to have the opportunity to take one of eight places to pitch to financial investors at the event.

Explaining the importance of attending the event for his company, Victor Piranda of Clube Orgânico, said, "The most important thing for Clube Orgânico will be the contact with companies and people from more consolidated markets than ours.

"We visit San Francisco in search of learning and validating our business model as well as investigating the opportunities for internationalising the business.”

Sonia Rodon of Adoravel Criatura hopes her attendance will build strong links for the development of her business, saying, "We seek strong partnerships for our business. We will also look at opportunities for internationalising our operations, as Brazil is the second country with the highest relevance of the pet market in the world.”

Marcos Bortolato of Yourkout, a healthcare company, and Tatiana Rihan of Marca em Casa, are both hoping to develop partnerships at the event. Marcos aims to develop market opportunities in the US healthcare sector and to benefit from new technologies and trends in the market. In addition to developing new partnerships, Tatiana also hopes to initiate opportunities for international trade.

Having attended the event in 2014, the focus this year for Erica Castilho of Web Moment will be to potentially pitch for investment, to strengthen partnerships with resellers, and to learn about the latest technological innovations in the sector.

All of the entrepreneurs are extremely grateful for the support they have received from Shell Iniciativa Jovem to reach this stage in the development of their businesses. Tatiana Rihan of Marca em Casa, said, "Shell Iniciativa Jovem helped me in many ways! The business planning process encouraged me to consider aspects of the business which I'd never thought of before, and enabled me to realise my entrepreneurial ambition.

"The programme provided me with extremely useful feedback during my journey to help me validate my business model, and the access to business consultancy and mentoring was extremely beneficial in improving my weaknesses and strengthening the business. I have much to thank Shell Iniciativa Jovem for, and now I go to Silicon Valley!”

Marcos Bortolato of Yourkout said, "Shell Iniciativa Jovem contributed in many ways, but the main thing it does is to make you feel part of an entrepreneurial community. With positive examples you go further.”

Erica Castilho of Web Moment, added, "Shell Iniciativa Jovem underlined the importance of understanding your market and the role of innovation in increasing competitiveness. In addition, it allowed me to assist new entrepreneurs in an effort to improve conditions for business in our country.”

Leise Duarte, Programme Manager of Shell Iniciativa Jovem, said, "This is the second time that some of our programme participants have attended Tech Crunch. This year we have five companies, which is a great proof point that our programme is nurturing high impact entrepreneurs. For us, these entrepreneurs are the ones who are committed to changing the environment in which they operate, generating incomes and employment, as well as inspiring new generations of innovative entrepreneurs.

"We're very proud of them. Beyond focusing their efforts on making their dreams come true, they aim to build a sustainable future.”
