Latest News / Online public vote opens for Shell LiveWIRE’s Top Ten Innovators Awards

The online public vote is now open as the countdown begins to find Shell LiveWIRE’s Top Ten Innovators. It’s been an exciting few weeks at the Shell LiveWIRE International office as the applications racked up, showcasing exciting examples of innovative businesses from within Shell LiveWIRE’s global network. 1,200 online votes have already been cast in the first 24 hours of voting, and with voting open until midnight GMT on 22 November, it looks as though it will be a highly competitive contest.

With a main award of US $15,000, three runners up receiving US $10,000 and the six remaining businesses receiving US $5,000, the programme offers entrepreneurs who have implemented innovation to build up successful ventures, with help from the LiveWIRE programme, the opportunity to receive further investment. By supporting innovation, Shell LiveWIRE intends to not only promote the long-term sustainability and growth of the individual winners but to create role models for future entrepreneurs. 26 businesses are currently competing for a place in the top ten, representing 10 country programmes and encompassing a truly diverse range of industries. The businesses showcase the many different ways in which innovation can be incorporated into a business model, from utilising drone technology in new ways and remodelling fresh food purchases, each delivering sustainable, local jobs.

Sustainability is a key theme, with many applicants seeking funds to refine processes that are already making the difference to the environment or promoting development in the energy, food and waste sectors. Healthcare, community focused ventures and design-led businesses also feature heavily.
