Latest News / UK plays leading role in digital entrepreneurship

A new report has ranked the UK 4th out of the G20 countries for digital entrepreneurship, behind the US, Germany and Japan. EY’s Disrupting the Disruptors report aims to represent how accommodating each country is to digital entrepreneurs, and to what extent they promote opportunities for start-ups in the digital industries.

The report scored each country in five categories to come to a final ranking. Category themes included: access to finance; entrepreneurial culture; the digital business environment; education; and, available support.

The two categories in which the UK excelled were Digital Business Environment, for which it was ranked best of all G20 countries, and Digital Knowledge Base and ICT Market, for which it was ranked 2nd.

Other notable performances included KSA in 7th place, Brazil in 9th, and South Africa in 10th. South Africa ranked 6th for its access to finance, reflecting the substantial levels of digital investment happening in the Cape Town region over the past few years. KSA ranked just behind in the same category in 7th place, while also achieving 7th for entrepreneurial culture.
