The UK has been named one of the best countries in the world to be an entrepreneur.

The 2018 Best Countries rankings, by US News, placed the UK 4th best place in the world for enabling entrepreneurship. Germany, Japan and the United States led the rankings, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Countries with LiveWIRE affiliated programmes, Singapore and the Netherlands, both made the top ten in 8th and 9th place respectively.

Countries were scored on ten categories which create a positive entrepreneurial environment. These included: connection to the rest of the world; educated population; entrepreneurial; innovative; provides easy access to capital; skilled labour force; technological expertise; transparent business practices; well-developed infrastructure; and, well-developed legal framework.

Entrepreneurship was the UKs highest performing category in the wider rankings, scoring 9.2 out of a possible 10. The high score represented its particular strength as being highly connected to the rest of the world, having an educated population and a well established infrastructure. It received its lowest score in innovation.
