The Shell LiveWIRE programmes in Brazil and Oman have each won prestigious awards to recognise excellence in business incubation, and enterprise education, respectively. Shell Iniciativa Jovem, the Brazilian LiveWIRE programme, was named as the top university-linked business incubator in Latin America, and number three in the world by international business incubation specialists UBI Global.

The prestigious UBI award recognises business incubators or accelerators linked to a university that achieves outstanding impact and performance relative to its global peers, and ShelI Iniciativa Jovem outperformed 256 other international incubators, from 53 countries, to achieve their number 3 in the world ranking.

Commenting on receiving this prestigious award, Leise Duarte, Programme Manager of Shell LiveWIRE in Brazil, and Social Performance Adviser, Shell Brazil, said, “Working in a collaborative way is critical at this time. Connecting large companies, such as Shell, with start-ups and universities creates connections that are extremely valuable for building a better, more ethical and sustainable future.

“Receiving this recognition from UBI increases our sense that LiveWIRE programmes are moving in the right direction by forming collaborative partnerships around the world. From Shell staff to the entrepreneurs that took part in the programmes, everyone here in Brazil is very proud with the UBI recognition.”

Best Educational Initiative

Shell Intilaaqah Oman won a prestigious award for Best Educational Initiative at the recent Entrepreneurship Awards ceremony hosted by the Sultanate’s Public Authority for SME Development, Riyada.

Shell Intilaaqah beat off strong competition from eight other organisations to win the award, which recognises the programme’s significant performance in the training and development of young entrepreneurs.

The award was provided by Riyada in conjunction with Oman Telecommunications Company, the primary provider of telephone and internet services in the country, and the Al Raffd Fund, a leading public organisation that provides funding for Omani SMEs.

Commenting on this success, Najwa Alkindi, Executive Director, Shell Intilaaqah Oman, said, “Being recognised as a winner in the Entrepreneurship Award – Best Educational Initiative category is a great accomplishment for Shell Intilaaqah Oman.

“We truly believe that providing an impactful service to Omani youth and to the SMEs begins with genuinely understanding and addressing their needs in successfully managing, growing and sustaining their ventures. We are committed to continue providing our services this year, and are aiming for bigger successes.”
