First Bright Ideas workshop

Shell Entreprendre, the new Shell LiveWIRE v2 programme in Gabon, has enabled its first 100 young people from Libreville to embark on their enterprise journey.

Following an induction to the programme at the Shell Gabon office in Libreville, the budding young entrepreneurs, who were selected from over 230 applicants, attended the Shell Entreprendre ‘Bright Ideas’ business ideas generation workshop.

The workshop provides participants with an understanding of what it takes to be an entrepreneur and the support to generate ideas for their own business. Bright Ideas also enables trainees to analyse the local economy and identify business opportunities in the country’s top five economic sectors, including the Oil & Gas industry.

Candidates who successfully complete the Bright Ideas training will progress to the intensive ‘Become a Successful Owner Manager’ business planning and management training programme, to help them develop a viable business model and formulate their business plan. They will also benefit from language training in ‘Business English’, to maximise their business’ prospects at both the national, and international level.

Candidates with viable business plans will be given access to business start up finance and technological support. Shell Entreprendre will also provide post-start up support in the form of mentoring, linkages to business incubation services and market access opportunities.

Shell Gabon’s Communications Manager, Roger Ratanga, says that, by investing in the development of young entrepreneurs, Shell wants to make a lasting contribution to Gabon’s economic take-off, by offering opportunities for sustainable employment. Mr Ratanga said, “Shell Entreprendre will enable young people to discover enterprise and develop the skills they need to launch their own businesses, drawing on Shell LiveWIRE’s 30 years experience at the service of young entrepreneurs around the world.”

Commenting on the Shell Entreprendre’s aims, Jerry-Gaultney Udjo, Programme Manager of Shell Enreprendre said, “This is a giant step towards the development of young Gabonese entrepreneurs in realisation of Shell Gabon Local Content aspirations and businesses that will potentially become integrated within our supply chain.”

By investing in the development of young entrepreneurs, Shell Gabon wants to make a sustainable contribution to the country’s economic development and provide sustainable employment opportunities.
